The weatherization project has been funded by individual donations, grants and donations of labor, materials and supplies. We estimate that approximately $85 worth of materials and labor was spent on each home weatherized. Community fundraising, grant writing and solicitation of donations have been crucial to the project’s success.
The following is a breakdown of contributions and other donations, with estimated worth calculated for the latter:
- $2050 was raised in the local communities through individual donations
- $1000 was given by the United Way of Mid Maine to coordinate referrals from the local towns general assistance recipients to Neighbor Warming Neighbor
- $2500 was given in a United Way of Eastern Maine grant to fund a Blower Door Kit
- $3640 worth of Maine Governor Initiative, Keep ME Warm weatherization kits

- $1235 estimated cost of volunteer labor for the second workday, November 15

We are interested in how we as a community can keep our buying dollar local while ensuring the health and well being of our citizens. As a result the project purchased all additional weatherization materials locally at a discounted rate from Mac’s TruValue Hardware in Unity. Not only has Mac’s supported this project from the start and sponsored several information sessions, but they have also shared expertise and made a commitment to stock the items the project needs. Their presence in our community helps us to buy essentials locally, reducing transportation costs and reinforces the central principle of supporting local business to sustain community vitality.
